Based on the error from Windows Update, the installer is crashing on me. I've downloaded the upgrade, restarted, and the installer still says the file is corrupt. --
Rebooted into safe mode and tried it again. Still a crash. I'm thinking the problem is caused by the same issue: Windows Update services. I've tried disabling them all except one (not really sure which one), I've tried running them all simultaneously, I've rebooted several times, and even rebooted while the machine was in Safe Mode.
My only other guess is that the upgrade I did on my desktop before putting this in my laptop has something to do with it. I'm going to try downloading it again on my desktop, but the last time I tried this, it asked me to upgrade my desktop/laptop and it said there was no OS to upgrade, just a bunch of applications (which it did upgrade). -JamesReply- 00:35, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

I have this same issue, except it didn't crash, it just took forever. --

I have the same issue with my laptop. i know it's because the computer has fasted internet and the upgrade is downloading onto your CPU... this took me an hour! I ended up downloading the upgrade from my desktop, which didn't take long at all. -LisaMud 01:32, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
In other news, I've received my Alpha, which I've put on my hard drive, along with 2 of the peripherals I ordered. I also have a USB TV tuner connected to my Gateway NV-1700, along with a DVD-RW drive and a software player (for when I get the all-important JVC Cine-X DVD player). I've also added a sound card (an Audigy 2 ZS) to the system so that I can get surround sound out of my Gateway, using the software that came with it.
With the introduction of Windows Phone Dev Center, Microsoft will also be bolstering its support for the SmartDeviceLink protocol. SmartDeviceLink is an initiative from the Smart Device Initiative , and is designed to allow developers to easily create apps for multiple devices. The protocol, which will work with the Windows Phone, Windows 8 and Xbox platforms, can be used to communicate with hardware and software on other devices, and the protocol can also communicate with applications from other platforms.
